MEDIA ALERT, 28 November 2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BRUSSELS, BELGIUM – At 11:00 on 30 November, 2013, Ilyas Essadek, partnering with ENAR Foundation, will execute his next cultural exchange project: hitchhiking and taking pictures from Brussels, Belgium to Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Ilyas Essadek is a Brussels resident and photographer with a unique outlook at the world he expresses through beautiful, prize-winning pictures.
Ilyas Essadek plans to travel from Brussels, Belgium to Kinshasa, DCR in order to make the ultimate cultural exchange; he will document his experiences on his blog: http://www.clicknride.wordpress.com as well as interview locals, participate in local cultural projects, lead workshops, and capture these events via photography and video. He will do most of his journey hitchhiking. His project will culminate with an exhibition in Brussels in March 2014.
He departs 30 November, 2013 at 11:00. He will begin at Place de la Bourse, Brussels, Belgium, and his route will carry him through France, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin, Nigeria, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville and end in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In today’s global society, we encounter many people from many lands and origins. Ilyas feels the need to not only immerse himself in the world—discovering it first-hand, but would also like to share this world with everyone. Ilyas intends to capture as much as he can and tell locals’ stories through pictures.
Born and raised in Brussels, Belgium, Ilyas Essadek is a young photographer with a passion for cultures and people who believes that life is about others: meeting, discovering, sharing. Because of this passion, he has become a cultural globetrotter. He has participated in several international projects in different countries in Europe and the rest of the world. He has travelled the world (Asia, Latin America) and taken amazing and powerful pictures that illustrate the diversity and beauty of the world. He studied journalism, and his photos have won multiple prizes with the most recent being First Place in Jeunes Actifs dans le Volontariat et les Voyages Alternatifs and the Travel, Life & Style Magazine Jury Prize. In September 2013, he set up his first exhibition Artworld.be with Brussels artists showing re-interpretations of his pictures taken all over the world.
